Next week: exam- wait outside, hour and fifty minutes, hand up when done and can leave. Brief psychotic disorder~ sudden onset of psychotic symptoms- last less than a month- stressor. Schizophreniform disorder~ identical to schizophrenia but lasts less than 6 months. Schizoaffective disorder~ patient suffers from schizophrenia and depression, mania, or mixed. Delusional disorder~ presence of non-bizarre delusion- could be true/believable- no disruptions in functioning ex. Someone who keeps seeing doctors even though every doctor says she"s fine, often associated with stressor. Shared psychotic disorder~ two people sharing a delusional belief. ~ dopamine hypothesis- older hypothesis, too much dopamine in the neural synapse. ~ low dopamine and serotonin levels associated with negative symptoms. ~ low levels of gaba (inhibitory) and glutamate associated with cognitive deficits- problems with learning and remembering new material. Children who, as adults, developed schizophrenia vs other psychiatric disorders has more subtle neuromotor abnormalities as children. Not linked with family environment- more genetic.
