Behaving dysfunctionally: key factor in determining if behaviour is indication of disorder, interfere with normal daily routines, may cause significant distress. Can"t work, no relationships, seeing things, hearing voices. Two ways to look at abnormal behaviour: categorical vs. dimensional: categorical. You either have disorder or you don"t: dimensional. An understanding of how abnormal behaviour varies in severity over time. Person might be more or less depressed at a given time, but still have depression disorder. Sex, race, or ethnicity: some behaviours are normal in certain cultural groups.
