Immunocompetence: the extent to which an immune system is functioning properly to ward off microorganisms: declines in a number of indicators of immunocompetence on last day of exam period compared to a month before the exam period. Self-hypnosis and massage therapy can reduce exam-related effects on the immune system by reducing stress. Pni: study of the relationship between psychological states and the immune system: psycho: psychology, neuro: affects nervous system functioning. Interested in the interactions among these systems and how they are affected by a number of psychological states. Pni research provides info linking psychology and health. Pni provides data in a form that makes sense to people whose training is biomedical in nature. Pni research represents a bridge between social scientists and health care providers and increases credibility of health psychology in the eyes of health care providers.
