Theories and ideas are based on empirical evidence. Researchers design studies to systematically test interesting questions. This, social psychology goes above and beyond. Social psychologists believe it is most important to understand individuals construal (the way in which people perceive, comprehend and interpret their social world, an individuals perception of what is going on) We are less concerned with understanding the objective properties of the social environment itself.
