Document Summary

Two relatively orthogonal dimensions tap individual differences in adult attachment. Best to think in terms of dimensions rather than categories. Split into quadrants instead: high attachment, high avoidance, high attachment, low avoidance, low attachment, low anxiety, low attachment, high anxiety. Refers to any behaviour performed with the goal of benefitting another person. Sometimes motivated by altruism ex kin selection. Some species of birds, mammals, fish and insects are known to exhibit examples of altruistic behaviour. Behaviour that help a genetic relative is favoured by a nature selection. Our genes get passed on not only by having our own children but also when a genetic relative has children. Kin selection is not a conscious process. How close are we to a given relative may be an even better predictor of altruism. The more genetically related people are, the more you see help in their behaviour.
