The jnd (just noticeable difference) / poe (point of objective equality) = k. This creates a constant ratio for a standard stimulus. The ratio should stay the same (example 1:10) As the intensity of the standard increases, weber"s law should remain. This is supposed to be a constant as we vary the intensity of the standard constant; slight ambiguity at the beginning but it is fairly constant. Social psychologist interested in our memory system that makes it problematic for us to perceive words that we find threatening. This is referred to as the perceptual defense = we defend ourselves as perceiving things that we find threatening/frightening. Wanted to contrast threshold of normal words with taboo words. Wanted to see if we needed a higher threshold for taboo words. Method: present stimuli words on a screen and set how long the words were going to be on the screen for only stopping when person accurately describes the word shown.
