Document Summary

Tied up with object perception how you see what an object is, where it is in space, how much room it takes up. Three cues: intensity differences between the two ears. If a noise is coming from the right, it has direct access to the right ear first, so it will be more intense in the right ear. Referred to as a sound shadow the sound waves have to go over the head to the other ear which lessens the intensity of the sound. If the sound is coming from directly in front of you, the intensities for both ears will be the same. Frequency of the sound = high frequency sounds are small and repeat rapidly so you get a much bigger sound shadow out of a high frequency wave compared to a low frequency wave. Differences in frequencies give a clear indication of the differences in intensities between the two ears: phase differences.
