Sperling (1960): assessed visual sensory memory (iconic memory) Presented participants with a 3x4 matric of letters. Partial report: each row had an assigned tone: medium, high or low, had to report the letters correlated to the tone they hard. Results: whole report participants: reported about 4 of 12 items, partial report participants: reported about 3 of 4 items no matter which row.
