Attachment an enduring emotional bond that unites two or more people across time and context. The human attachment context involves an emotional bond, although animals may also have an emotional element to their attachment. Helps infant to regulate negative emotions, reduce and regulate stress (fear, distress). Allows for development of confidence in your own abilities to solve problems. The attachment figure is not always a parents, it can be any person that is a prominent figure i(cid:374) the i(cid:374)fa(cid:374)t"s life eg. grand parents, nannies, childcare workers etc. The person that the infant will go to for comfort and assistance when in a state of distress. The infant does not go indiscriminately to any person for help, they go to the attachment figure. Use the attachment figure as a secure base for exploring the environment.
