Psychology 2550A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Sexual Jealousy, Stabilizing Selection, Prefrontal Cortex
Document Summary
Evolutionary theory and personality the evolutionary approach focuses on personality differences between people as a result of natural selection. Directional selction- characterstics that enhance survival and reproduction gradually become increasly represented in the gene poll, which is more important versus the individual. However some characterstics that may be highly adaptive in some environments may be dysfunctional and catastrophic in others. Stabilizing selection- when adaptive not to have extreme too high too low , genetic varibily may be mained through stabilizing selection. Mate selection- an evolutionary pressure- there will be important sex differences in the characteristics desired in mates. Sexual jealousy evolutionary pressures encourage aggressive, sexual jealousy. Differences in regrets- males, unlike females, tend to express greater about not in males (it may increase their reproductive success) having pursued romantic or sexual relationships. When organisms learn, not all associations between stimuli are formed with equal ease. These variations in he ease of associationing different types of events suggest biological preparedness.
