Socioeconomic status (ses: relative standing based on income, power, status/prestige, minority-group students more likely from low ses families, risk from low ses amplified by cultural misunderstandings, biases. 1 in 7 children in canada live in poverty: higher risk of, health problems, discipline problems, grade failure, reading problems, changing schools, dropping out. Risk further increased if also from a minority culture.
