Research proposal: to propose a study that would extend our understanding of any area in prosocial or antisocial behaviour. Major themes: situations can have powerful in uences on peoples behaviour. Nudging them toward either prosocial or antisocial behaviour. But to say that situations make behaviour inevitable negates free will. The power of the situation: darley & batson - ps were theology students who had just read the good samaritan parable from bible. Told to go to another building to deliver sermon on this parable. = time pressure (told to hurry or to take their time) Came across man lying on ground outside coughing. Those told to take time, over 60% helped. Those who told late about 10% helped. Psychiatrists predicted just 0. 1% of ps would go all the way. Study 1: 65% of ps were completely obedient (up to 450 v) They committed f. a. e - underestimated the power of the situation.
