Document Summary
Expectancy-value models: theory of reasoned action: something you choose to do (aware & conscious) The biggest prediction of behaviour is your stated intention. The biggest predictor of intention are attitude toward the behaviour & the social norm (perceived social pressure to either perform/not perform a behaviour) Attitudes are shaped by expectancy that the behaviour will produce desired consequence. Attitude can be measured by multiplying expectancy score by value score for each consequence examined & summing these products across consequences. Subjective norms are predicted by 2 factors: Product of normative beliefs about how ppl who are important to the individual expect them to act & the individuals motivation to comply. Control is another predictor of intention not all behaviours are under complete control. Direct effect on behavioural intentions con dence in ability to perform behaviour. Direct effect on behaviour depends on actual control. Eg: predicting condom use; use is related to the intention of using a condom (r = . 45)
