Shint is being blended with buddhism, but there were also shint purists. Shint wanted written texts & a scripture like buddhism. Both texts were mythological, but they claimed stores were orally passed down: ancient myths, overall, some mythology is very similar to chinese &bolsters royal family. Earth was a chaotic mess, then the heavens above and the world below started to form. Kami began to form and occupied heaven o. Specifically, izanagi (male) and izanami (female) came into being. The kami were told to go and create the japanese islands o. Izanagi &izanami created the islands and also lesser kami. Izanami dies giving birth to the heat kami and goes to land of yomi (land of dead) o o. Izanagi tries to follow here there but izanami chases him away. Izanami then blocks off land of yomi with a stone to prevent the living from entering it.
