Some aspect of society that people are concerned about and would like changed. It is important to know the difference, since some aspects of people"s lives they can actively change and others they can"t. Consists of a series or process of interventionist actions. The worker calls upon their repertoire of helping knowledge, skills, and values and then applies them in a particular way in specific situations to achieve a change. The process or steps are essentially the same in each situation. Social work is not a mechanical practice/process but rather an interplay of action, reflection, and more action. Practice consists of series or process of interventive actions drawing on a repertoire of knowledge, skills and values. Goals: change behaviour, develop new coping strategies, adapt to environment, change environment. Focus is on changing formal systems that directly affect client. Program development and evaluation- use of social research methods.
