Correctional institutions part ii: less than 5% of convicted offenders are sentenced to custody in an institution, we reserve custody for the highest risk offenders. Inmates sentenced to this type of institution do pose a risk to the safety of the community, and therefore there are restrictions on inmate movements. It is the canadian version of a supermax prison". Security: static security, fixed security apparatus, eg. video surveillance, perimeter fencing, fixed security posts staffed by correctional officers, alarms, security administered from a control room, dynamic security, ongoing, meaningful interactions between staff and inmates. Security is mostly done from a security camera. The reason one institution can be more total comes down to the security classification there is a continuum of correctional institutions. At one end of the continuum is minimum security institutions, and maximum institutions are at the other end. Life in the institution will be very different whether you"re in a minimum or maximum facility.
