Document Summary
Most common ways to present data in pictures are plots &graphs. Purpose is to give you a visual summary that"s more informative than the list of numbers. Basic characteristics: data should stand out from background, clear labeling indicating the title/purpose, meaning of the different aspects, &scale of each axis. Source of data: little to no clutter. Categorical data is used to determine how the whole divides into categories. Useful only when one categorical variable is measured. Show what percentage of the whole falls into each category. Not as visually appealing as pie charts, but are more versatile. Can also represent proportions that aren"t a sum of 100% Like a bar graph but uses pictures related to the topic of the graph. Easier to detect patterns than if it was a list. Useful for displaying the relationship between 2 measurement variables. Can be more difficult to read than a line graph, but displays more information.
