Two sample Tests for means
Comparing Hypothesis Tests
- One-sample tests:
o comparing a sample value to a larger population whose parameters are assumed to be
known
- Two-sample tests:
o comparing the parameters of two different populations, neither of whose individual
values are assumed known, BUT we assume to know the difference between them
Test for differences between means
Two-sample confidence interval
- estimating the difference bw two population means
- conditions and degrees of freedom are the same as hypothesis test
Scenario (Version 2.0)
- Suppose you are interested in the relationship between oral contraceptive use (OC use) and
blood pressure (BP) in women. OC users are commonly thought to have increased body weight
compared to non-OC users. High weight tends to be associated with high blood pressure

Document Summary

One-sample tests: comparing a sample value to a larger population whose parameters are assumed to be known. Two-sample tests: comparing the parameters of two different populations, neither of whose individual values are assumed known, but we assume to know the difference between them. Two-sample confidence interval estimating the difference bw two population means conditions and degrees of freedom are the same as hypothesis test. Suppose you are interested in the relationship between oral contraceptive use (oc use) and blood pressure (bp) in women. Oc users are commonly thought to have increased body weight compared to non-oc users. High weight tends to be associated with high blood pressure. Researchers compared two groups of competitive rowers: a group of skilled rowers and a group of novices. The researchers measured the angular velocity (cid:523)radians/second(cid:524) of each subject"s right knee. The data are summarized in the table provided.
