Statistic = a number that has been calculated from a set of data. Measures of central tendency (section 3. 1: mode (m0, observation that occurs most frequently (if any, for data grouped into cells/classes, mode is often stated as the midpoint of the cell with the largest frequency. Mode is not that useful in determining the center of the distribution: mean, most commonly used measure of centre, it is the average value of the data.
