Categories are always determined by a hierarchy of power: two ways of reproducing a hierarchy. Get rid of the people threatening your position. Convincing the person below you that that is their natural place. Create a world view in which the person below you believes that they are less powerful than the person above them: an ideology. Truth and knowledge do not exist outside power relations. Power determines the criteria by which we decide what"s true and what"s false. Ideology disguises itself as common sense and people tend not to question them. Men and women were variations of the same person. Vital heat: the higher heat during conception led to men being formed. This meant that women were unfinished men. Men and women were the same thing. One was just more perfected than the other. The difference existed as a matter of degree.
