Since 19th century refers to sexually explicit representation. Still illegal to solicit money in modern age, but essentially you"re not allowed to advertise you"re open for sex. Saw porn as a misogynist tool to justify abuse towards women. Anti-porn campaigns: link consumption of porn to sexual abuse of real women. *radical contested terms (subsumes conflicting agendas and arguments, has become stereotype) Us legal battles: attempts to institute laws, porn as violation to women"s rights. Rejects constitutional challenge to laws based on radical/dominant feminist understanding. 1990s and 2000s lgbtq bookstores confiscated and charged. Non-radical feminists counter-argue marginal and subversive representations most vulnerable to laws (ie. Binary perpetuates new norms, seeks to limit expression. Porn is in the eye of the beholder. Creating opposition between pop culture, mainstream culture, and "high" culture referencing art. Example: childbirth, no one labels birth as pretty, but it is described as a beautiful experience. Fully embodied experience that is considered life changing.
