There is a distance between the two terms, and the term disability tends to be othered . It easier to define disability against societies norms even when we cannot articulate ability. Not being able to complete normal day to day functions. More disabilities become common due to not being able to keep up with the fast pace of life. Othering tends to exclude people with disabilities from the norm. Similarly, women are made the other of man. Our understanding of the othered group comes from the dominant group, and the understanding of the other group is pretty limited. There is a hierarchy of power and value; the necessity of the internationally recognized symbol of disability.
