Women's Studies 2161A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Cisgender, Identity Politics, Fasciation
Document Summary
Ws lecture 2: tv assignment info: Can use first person perspective (no claims though) An idea of numbers: in 2009, the top 100 grossing films had only 30% speaking roles by women, in crowd scenes, only 17% of the people are women. Women in film: women directors have one chance to do well, no mistakes, always have only one role, not very dimensional. 23: only 3 women have directed huge major films. A strong female cast can actually be funny. Men are going to those movies: the bechdel test. Has to have at least 2 women in it who talk to each other who talk about something other than a man: not a sign of whether a film is feminist or even good, spin-offs and alternatives. The mako mori test: more than one woman who has her own narrative arc that isn"t about supporting a man"s story. Is she a corpse? (opening scene of nice guys)
