Buffy and jessica: gendered violence and cathartic experiences. Both subtly and explicitly embed strong gender roles. Catharsis: release of emotions, relief, coping mechanism. You can"t be what you cant see, representation matters. Buffy started as a film, abandoned and picked up as a tv series for 7 seasons. Season one trailer overshadows the ass kicking with the romance aspect. Just cause there is a female lead, its enough to make it a study. But does offer more than other shows, effort to push back polarity. Takes stereotypical blonde girl from horror movies that always are first to die, and made her into a hero that walks into danger and defeats it. Script and cinematography adds to the message of female empowerment. Wears an all white dress to fight. Still embodies traditionally feminine attributes while kicking butt. Power does not exclude you from being a victim, this is just distancing the viewer from relating offensive.
