No ancient times didn"t: own system of fashion doesn"t get going until medieval times, fashion all about change and consensual trends. 1- selection of clothes and apparel, some go in and out of fashion. 2- ways of wearing/combining a rave of clothes. 3- trends in decoration or accessories ie, jewelry, shoes. No to this other way around: "there is no psychic reality that pursues fashion. Theories of fashion: explain the existence and cycles of fashion considering many factors, history of dress, fashion industry, artistic influences on taste, social organization, how a culture determines femininity etc. Historical approaches: dress and textile history, social history of dress, looks at the dress, hemline etc. Consumer cultural theories approaches: clothing and cultural formation, history of consumption, marketing, management, industrial relations, political studies. Cultural forces: cultural history of fashion, normally looks at mindsets, mentality, people"s view of clothing, sociology of culture theory, diasporic/ethnic studies of fashion. Communication: semiotics barthes, subcultural analysis, art history visual.
