Announcements: madhavi (ta) office hours, stevenson hall 3156 thursdays 11:30-1:30, mmohan9@uwo. ca, the professor"s office hours will be cancelled tomorrow. Wollstonecraft: a vindication on the rights of women: she talks about the incapability of women to be a man"s equal, because by nature women are seen as fragile and docile. If women were educated, they could take some of the burden away from the men: men go and have sex outside of marriage, which trains them to believe that sex is not about intimacy, but relieving lust. It wasn"t thought that women were as capable of reason as men were. This is what wollstonecraft is so angry about women are taught to be dolls, just pretty and obedient, which doesn"t serve anyone well. It is difficult to step outside of what is normal (which makes wollstonecraft revolutionary: harriet taylor (next week"s reading) says that just because something is customary doesn"t mean that it"s good.
