Womens nature has been discussed for about as long as we have records and usually assumed to deficient. Aristotle argued women have fewer teeth than men and women are incomplete men. Galen believed that men"s power came from the fact that men were warmer->testicles were necessarily stronger. Avicenne: took galens position that men were hot and dry, women were wet and cold. Maimonides: believed women were matter->led them to be more promiscuous and needed to be ruled by men, men were force. Took idea of women"s baser nature and tendency to promiscuity to extreme. More prone to carnality, lying, wrath, adultery, deception, evi. Womens voice, gait, posture and habit all lead to evil. >more likely to be seduced by devil and led to witchcraft. Men and women had basically same parts, the placement of body was different. 1860s: debate on whether or not women had equal intellectual capability more/less over.
