Thinking about a topic &trying to come up w/as many ideas as possible. Goal: generate a dozen ideas from which 1 can derive a focus to write about. Can be entirely internal or combined w/listing ideas. Shitty first drafts: no editing, what is important is that you keep on writing. Sitting down for a set time &writing on the topic without stopping. Don"t pay attention to grammar or coherence: getting sidetracked doesn"t matter. If you run out of things just write down your train of thought, even if it"s irrelevant. Afterwards, go through &see if there"s anything good that you could work with. Keep in mind that what you write doesn"t have to be perfect, then start: this helps relieve anxiousness regarding writing. Take a single topic from previous free writing &focus on that. Brings you closer to a unified, coherent piece. Use classic journalistic questions &apply them to a topic: write down answers to the questions.
