Document Summary
Research process and design in archaeology october 1st, 2015. Five simple steps: need and research questions, collecting and recording evidence, processing evidence, analyses of evidence, dissemination of results. Scientific inquiries involve specific questions addressed through observation, testable hypotheses and prediction. Descendant community requests to address specific questions raised by and relevant to them as stakeholders. Forensic investigations, where there is reason to believe human remains will be encountered require that the appropriate authorities are contacted. Authorities are responsible for assessing the situation and deciding how to proceed. Cultural resource management (crm) investigations to identify cultural resources and historic properties at proposed project development sites: an important component of project planning. Investigations are steered by the mandate of protection and management. What triggers a crm archaeological investigation in ontario: housing subdivisions and other land development projects, public development projects, quarrying, forest harvesting, pipelines, lands owned by the government agencies (i. e. county, province).
