Expansion gave rome better access to wealth and resources. One of the most important inventions of the romans and for their architecture. Enabled buildings of different shapes and massive dimensions to be constructed. Basilica first appear in early 2nd century bc: basilica aemilia ca. Thought that romans built these to impress the envoys sent by the kingdoms which they conquered: commonly located in the forum. The structures were not permanent, they were erected from wood and placed in the middle of the forum. As roman conquest became more common, plunder collected by victorious generals grew. Many used some of the spoils to build temples at rome in honour of their victory: manubaie = spoils in latin.
