Final decades of the republic marked by regular succession of civil wars: caesar v. pompey, brutus and cassius v. antony and octavian, antony v. octavian. In the end one man, octavian (later augustus), was left standing. Following an agreement with the roman senate in 27 bc, he became the first emperor of. Augustan period of roman history is from 27bc 14 ad. The period during which augustus had sole command over the roman empire. In many regions of the roman world the augustan phase is visible in the archaeological record. More so than romans before him, augustus was very deliberate about the choice of imagery and building projects. Wanted to convey glorification of rome as a result of his work.
