Document Summary

A and b are reactants; c and d are products , and a, b, c and d represent the number of moles. The reaction is reversible, but the actual direction and rate at any one time depends on the energy and on the concentrations of a,b,c and d(the direction depends on the energy and concentrations) Concentrations of cells are constantly being changed, new things are being brought into the cell. Energy: the capacity to do work: kinetic energy of motion, potential energy: stored energy. Types of energy that are most important in biology. Energy: light, heat, mechanical, chemical, electrical/ion gradients. Energy can be concerted readily from one form to another(can be interconverted) Example: biolite campstove: burn wood inside and on top can boil water, and at the side it provides an outlet(converts energy released when wood is burned(potential energy) which produces heat and turns into electrical energy.
