Document Summary

Module 29: photosynthesis i: absorbing and capturing light energy. There are 2 phases that occur in the chloroplast. Chlorophyll and carotenoids (key pigments involved in photosynthesis) Chlorophyll a is oxidized and donates e- to primary e- acceptor. Donate excitation energy to chlorophyll a via inductive resonance. Chlorophyll absorbs blue and red wavelengths most strongly. Chlorophylls and carotenoids work together to absorb photons during photosynthesis. The green and yello(cid:449) aren"t good at dri(cid:448)ing photosynthesis but blue and red are. Put algae in liquid and shone light onto it. Wanted to know which cells were photosynthesing the most. He knew that o2 was a byproduct of photosynthesis. Therefore he put in aerobic bacteria and watched where they went he saw that they clustered around the blue and red wavelengths of light. This shows the link between photosynthesis and light.
