Document Summary

The sum of all chemical reactions that occur in every cell. Atp is where the energy comes from to feed endergonic reactions. Photosynthesis as an entire pathway is an endergonic process but the energy comes from light, not. Cellular respiration as an entire pathway is an exergonic process. Photoreceptors: basic light-sensing systems that are found in almost universally all organisms. Consists of a pigment molecule(retinal) bound to a membrane protein (opsin) All photoreceptors contain a pigment but all pigments aren"t necessarily photoreceptors. Phytochrome consists of a protein and a pigment called bilin. *not a direct response to the presence or absence of light, but rather the photoperiod sets the entire clock. Organisms can"t sense that the photoperiod will change but the circadian rhythm prepares you. Circadian rhythm is changing which changes the gene expression.
