Document Summary

Extensive interconnected network of membranous channels and vesicles. Sorts finished proteins to be secreted from cell or embedded in plasma membrane. Vesicles come from er and fuse with the golgi. *different types of proteins are transported through different vesicles to different locations in the cell. Vacuoles are used for storage, transportation and specialized functions (contractile vacuole in a paramecium) In plant cells vacuoles are very large (for storage of water) Er and nucleus can be directly connected together sometimes. All proteins start at the er no matter where they go or what their function is. What about proteins synthesized on the cytosolic ribosomes. Golgi complex sort the different types of proteins and the secretory vesicles are the ones that transport them to the outside of the cell. Exocytosis - secretory vesicle has a phospholipid bilayer that fuses with the plasma membrane and releases the contents inside of the vesicle to the cell exterior.
