Hr audits are important because: human resource work has many legal implications, human resources are often very costly, hr departments help to share an organization"s productivity, the critical resources in many organizations are information and knowledge. Hr audits allow managers to see how well hr strategy aligns with organizational strategy. Evaluations and audits are backwards looking, hr managers must develop a future orientation. Each manager is responsible for human resource management. Staff authority: authority to advise, but not to direct, others. Managers of operating departments have line authority. Line authority: authority to make decisions about production, performance, and people. Human resource specialists advise line managers, who alone are responsible for employee performance. In highly technical or routine situations, an hr department may be given functional authority. Functional authority: authority that allows staff experts to make decisions and take actions normally reserved for line managers.
