Oriening employees: a comprehensive orientaion (also called onboarding) program can lead to reducions in turnover, increased morale, fewer instances or correcive discipline, and fewer employee grievances, purpose of orientaion programs: Employee orientaion (onboarding): a procedure for providing new employees with basic background informaion about the irm and the job. Helps new employees become produce more quickly than they might otherwise. Accelerates ime-to-producivity by compleing beneits decisions, payroll forms, new hire data, introducion of policies and procedures, and preliminary socializaion. Socializaion: the ongoing process of insilling in all employees the prevailing aitudes, standards, values, and paterns of behaviour that are expected by the organizaion. During the ime required for socializaion to occur, a new employee is less than fully producive. Reality shock the state that results from the discrepancy between what the new employee expected from his or her new job and the realiies of it.
