Document Summary

Queuing theory mathematical approach for the analysis of waiting lines. The goal of queuing is to minimize the sum of two costs: customers waiting cost and service capacity cost. Infinite source the potential number of customers greatly exceeds system capacity. Finite-source the number of potential customers is limited. Poisson distribution a one-parameter discrete probability distribution of a number of events occurring in an interval of time, provided that these events occur with a known average rate and independently of the time since the last event. Exponential distribution the continuous probability distribution of the times between events that happen continuously and independently at a constant average rate. The average time customers wait in line increases non-linearly as the server utilization increases. Queue discipline the order in which customers are served. Server utilization the proportion of time a server will be busy. Average number of customers being served at any time: Model 2: single server, exponential service durations, finite number in system.
