Document Summary

Most info comes from media society, rarely hear other side of crime story or victims. Typically get police spokesperson, given bare bone facts not an in-depth discussion, producing a message to the media. Police use news media to help solve crimes (ex. missing persons cases) Constantly put cases repeatedly towards the public because information could be remembered years prior to event taking place. Previous to 1800s policing was not something we had, no form of police. Kings law; laws of the land, enforced by the army. Locally there were no sheriffs, in english history, sheriff paid to be sheriff by paying a fee per year to the king to be the sheriff; fee paid to him for each person he jailed. Kings law eventually changed due to the development of common law; the law of the common person; documents such as the magna carta which laid out the common law.
