Document Summary

Forensic science consists of : collection of evidence, scene investigation, examination of evidence, scientific/medical, presentation of evidence, advocates/courts. Courts in nsw: supreme court, district court, land and environment court, local court, coroner"s court, civil and administrative tribunal. Industrial relations commission: children"s court, drug court, etc. Judicial processes: most courts in nsw are adversarial: Two parties (e. g. prosecution and defence) argue their respective cases before a court (magistrate, judge and/or jury. ) The court then makes a decision: some courts and inquiries are inquisitorial: This applies in many overseas legal systems, in the nsw coroner"s. This has implications for the investigation and presentation of forensic evidence in the court: general comment: adversarial and inquisitorial court systems differ from country to country and can therefore not necessarily be generalized, the inquisitorial process: Fact-finding in the form of an inquiry. The emphasis is on substance rather than procedure: the adversarial system: Contest requiring strict compliance with evidentiary and procedural rules.
