Representative of justice: need to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the accused is guilty, to not win cases but to present evidence. Information falls under police responsibility: outlines allegation (what the person did) Brought before the justice of peace (jp) Higher up will decide if there is enough information to lay a charge. Charges won"t be laid when person is under the age of 12 (young offenders act) Expense too much for severity of crime. Released by a judge or justice of the peace. Show cause: crown must show the detention of the accused until their trial is necessary. Reverse onus: beyond a reasonable doubt, a person who is charged has to prove they. Recognizance: a promise/ commitment that if the person doesn"t show up in court, they aren"t a threat to the community will owe money. Surety: you don"t promise to pay, your friend or relative does.
