CC210 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Twin, Autonomic Nervous System, Impulsivity
Document Summary
Nature vs. nurture: biology vs. socialization, are some born smarter than others? o twin studies. Behaviour genetics: influences attributable to genetic effects, influences of environment shared by siblings, influences from unshared experiences, studies of twins, fraternal, dizygotic (two eggs) Do they share similar lives anyway: concordance, the degree to which related pairs of subjects both show a particular behaviour or condition, the twins" early development study, behaviour and development in language. Cognition, and academic abilities from early childhood through adolescence: heritability seems to play a modest role callous-unemotional trait, interaction of biological factors and environmental influences. The maoa gene: maoa-l gene = low activity, the "warrior" gene. Less in male adolescent delinquent behaviour: seven genes have been associated with antisocial behaviour in humans. Psychophysiological factors: genetic factors played an important role in the early onset of aggressive behaviour in children. More prone to be aggressive and act out with the maoa-l gene.
