Family violence has been around for centuries. Includes domestic violence and child, male, woman, same sex abuse: learned behaviour. Threats, humiliation, physical, and sexual abuse: force. Punishing the offender traditional by sending them to jail. Western society that female and the child are his property. Violence is a learned behaviour: learning from growing up, home life is very important and has an effect on them when they are older. Example will harm the children if you leave. Feminist theory sees ties to patriarchy: male dominating approach, man"s world, imbalance with power, men take advantage of women. Gender imbalance also intersects with age, ability, class, race, and sexual orientation: how the system is set up. How do children learn to become answers: imitation theory- starting at a young age, differential association- who you associate with, dysfunctional family when the father leaves, sometimes they marry the abuser. Used as a criminal defence: when you feel like you"re put into danger.
