Invention: a completely new technology, very rare (completely new, ex: supercomputer) Innovation: new ways to make a previous technology useful (more common, laptop) Diffusion of technologies: projection, new uses, the work of designers marketers or innovative users adapting this tech into their lives. When writing developed it spurred a development of civil servant and grew the educated middle class. Invention of turning electricity into light, then innovation of led lights, then diffusion is little led fan that spells words. Think about how the shifts of tech change culturally, socially, etc. Wide gap between invention and its diffusions, phonographs had multiple different predicted uses such as speaking toys, clocks that tell you the hour, advertisements on the streets, as a musical instrument . *remember that it is easy to look back and see what t could be used for but not so easy at the time* Inventor, investor, corporation (not one person that invents is)
