Document Summary

Was a working musician, music is still played today. Afraid that phonograph would replace singing socially. People will stop being soulful, just human phonographs - lacking soul and expression. Worried about the decimation of music industry, which it did. With the phonograph people would be compelled to dance without stopping because the phonograph doesn"t take breaks in music like an orchestra would. *when new tech is developped people often miss the past and fear the future. Telephone is only useful if multiple people have it. Only wealthy people had their own phone, most communities had a party line. Transmitting sermons, broadcasting news, wake up calls, degree conferred by phone, dispatching boats. Residential phones - rates and structure had to be changed. Wireless telegraph allowed the ability to no longer be alone - one boat communicating with another boat. Allowed us to experience this disaster as it was happening.
