The ethnographer rst enters the eld as like a stranger by making the familiar strange or unfamiliar. That is, she or he tries to treat the familiar word of its members as anthropologically strange, to expose its social and cultural construction (walsh, seale, 227) Interviewing is one of the primary methods of quantitative research. It is a process of dyadic relational communication (except focus groups) Designed to explore the meaning of social and cultural practices. One of the key methods that phillips uses in her study is the qualitative interview.
