Globalization is comprised of both objective and subjective processes: objective: material factors, such as economic exchange, legal rules and military force o. Subjective: cultural, ideological and normative factors or what we think and express. Steger notes that globalization is highly contested. The 2-sided struggle of globalization: one side: development, freedom, sustainability, colonialism/ postcolonialism, free markets, other side: hope, cosmopolitanism, democracy. Cosmopolitanism is the ideology that all human beings belong to a single community, based on a shared morality. Global-local nexus (p. 2: e. g. in the fifa example, it depicts national teams playing in brazilian stadiums in front of a mixture of local, national, and global spectators. E. g. you don"t buy things when you feel lost so every tourist place has a spot where you feel comfortable (e. g. through same language or culture or music) so you spend money. & countries: battle over language and the power defining o the protestival.
