This is true whether these grousp are within one country (civil war) or in different countries (classic international warfare). Armed conflict is the use of weapons and physical violence with the intention of inflicting damage and harm upon people in an effort to get them to do what you want. Clausewitz said war is an act of violence, intended to compel our opponent to fulfill our will. war is like a duel, he concluded, only on an extensive scale . On average 2 new wards every year and 12 armed conflicts ongoing. According to a realist, war is all about power, with military force one of the most potent means of getting other to comply with one"s will. War is about the use of violence to exert control, whether domestically over one"s own people or internationally over foreigners.
