Document Summary

Gs101 (orend) chapter 7: armed conflict part 1 causes and outbreak. War: actual, intentional, and widespread armed conflict between groups of people. Clausewitz said: war is an act of violence, intended to compel our opponent to fulfill our will war is like a duel only on an extensive scale. Armed conflict: use of weapons and physical violence with the intention of inflicting damage and harm upon people in an effort to get them to do what you want. Strong economy needed to fund strong military: technology, transportation, weaponry, and personnel all cost a tremendous amount of money. Military technology often becomes big part of civilian economy. Internet, helicopter, and satellites began as tools to support the military. Some argue having a strong military is essential to having a strong economy. Unless you have reliable security to guard against such violent attacks, you can"t get on with the business of growing the economy and improving everyone"s living standards.
