HE201 Lecture Notes - Lecture 17: Clinical Trial
Document Summary
The people who participate could be very different from the people who do. Study on exercise: people who exercise may be more inclined/excited to participate than those who do not enjoy exercise. Study populations: study population: the people who actually participate in a study, few studies achieve a 100% participation rate among those who are invited to participate, but researchers should aim for a high participation rate. Nonresponse: lack of response to something (usually a survey). Generalizability: also known as external validity or representativeness , allows results to be applicable to a target audience. To apply findings to a target population (higher level) Populations for cross sectional surveys: avoid convenience samples that are not representative of the target population. Go to a mall & ask people to participate (pop. May be more socioeconomically advanced, may not go there frequently, etc. )
